CHARSADDA: Former Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti was elected as the Awami National Party (ANP) provincial president on Tuesday.

The provincial elections were held at Asfandyar Wali Khan’s home at Wali Bagh, in Charsadda on Tuesday.

Around 426 ANP provincial members took part in the elections under Bahser Khan Matta who was appointed as the election commissioner.

Feltman Urges Syria Not to Impede Lebanese Presidential Elections

U.N. Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman urged the Syrian regime to facilitate the Lebanese presidential elections, An Nahar newspaper reported on Tuesday.

According to the daily, Feltman called on Damascus during a meeting with the Syrian president's media adviser Bouthaina Shaaban not to obstruct the presidential poll.

Shaaban has visited Norway in the first trip to Europe by a senior official in three years, her office said Sunday.

Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) officials from southern Kandahar province said on Sunday that votes from 17 polling sites have been separated out of the vote counting process for further review after suspicions of fraud arose from complaints filed by presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah. Election officials of nearby Helmand province have said votes from 13 sites have been isolated.

The Independent Election Commission's (IEC) Secretariat Chief, Zia-ul-Haq Amarkhail, announced his resignation on live television Monday afternoon.

The announcement came just a day after presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah released phone recordings of conversations allegedly between Amarkhail and members of the campaign team of his opponent, Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai. The recordings suggest a broad plot to conduct fraud during the runoff election, however, the identities of the voices on them have yet to be confirmed.

UI comprehensive database on electoral politics goes online

The Center for Political Studies at the University of Indonesia (UI) has launched a comprehensive online database of statistics and analysis related to political studies.

The center’s research and data manager, Dirga Ardiansa, said the database, accessible through the website datapolitik.org/gis/puskapol/, provided information on the country’s political landscape in the forms of tables, info graphics and geospatial maps.

PKB Aims to Take In 75% of Votes in East Java for Joko-Kalla Ticket

Jakarta. The National Awakening Party, or PKB, has set a goal to win at least 75 percent of the votes in East Java province for presidential and vice presidential candidates Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla in the July 9 election, according to party chairman Muhaimin Iskandar.

Muhaimin, who is also the minister for manpower and transmigration, said all of the party’s members and volunteers must act in order to achieve this goal.

CHP plans to postpone convention

Egypt to start preparation for parliamentary elections by 18 July

Egyptian state-owned TV said Sunday that post-coup president Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi has decided to start preparation for parliamentary elections by July 18.

According to MENA news agency, quoted presidential spokesman Ehab Badawy as saying that al-Sisi told US Secretary of State during his recent visit that Egypt is "determined to move forward with the future roadmap."

The date of the parliamentary elections has not yet been specified.
