Presidente egipcio renueva parte de su gabinete ministerial

El presidente de Egipto, Mohamed Mursi, inició este martes la reorganización de su gabinete al nombrar nuevos ministros en nueve carteras, entre las que se encuentran las de Finanzas, Justicia y Agricultura.

Los nuevos ministros nombrados por el presidente Mursi son Fayad Abdel Moneim Ibrahim, que ocupará la cartera de Finanzas; y Amr Darag que estará a cargo de Planificación y Cooperación Internacional.

También fueron nombrados los titulares de Petróleo, Sherif Hedara; de Agricultura, Ahmed el Guizaui; y de Inversiones, Yehia Abdel Samie, entre otros.

The ruling Democrats of Prime Minister Sali Berisha have included in their list of candidates three former Socialist MPs who switched ranks ahead of the polls.

The defectors were key to securing a majority in parliament for the government, after the Socialist Movement for Integration, the former junior government partner, joined the opposition coalition in early April.

El líder de la Yama'at Islami (JI), Syed Munawar Hasan, ha declarado que todos aquellos que se consideren a sí mismos liberales en un país hecho para la supremacía del Corán y la Sunna, deberían ser considerados minorías religiosas. Hasan cree que la intervención americana en el país ha llevado a la anarquía y que no hay cabida en el país para todo aquel que apoye a EEUU. Este discurso lo dio en Karachi, cerca de la tumba del fundador del país, Alí Yinnah.

Qatari delegation survives Somalia car bomb

Mogadishu: A car bomb hit a convoy of cars carrying Qatari officials through the centre of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Sunday, killing at least eight Somalis, officials said.

The visiting delegation of Qataris, who were travelling in the Somali interior minister’s bullet-proof vehicle, were “safe”, a security officer said, without going into further detail. The minister was not in the car at the time.

2,145 jail sentences issued for terrorism by security court

A special security court has issued 2,145 jail sentences for “supporting terrorism” since it was formed four and a half years ago, according to the Justice Ministry.
The Specialized Criminal Court often tries suspects accused of affiliation with Al-Qaeda's local branch, which operates in the region.
Spokesman Fahd bin Abdullah Al-Bakran told reporters that the Specialized Criminal Court has already ruled in 1,080 cases and is still looking into another 419 cases that involve 2,800 suspects.

Newspapers in Qatar are young compared with other countries in the region or the Arab world as a whole, but not so young that they cannot attempt bold and critical stories.

But, sadly, a culture of gifts, cash handouts and free overseas trips has taken root, which is spoiling journalists, and the newspapers seem to be turning a blind eye to the malaise as that helps them multiply their advertising revenues.

Head of an Iranian principlist group, Asadollah Badamchian, says the group has finalized a list of 31 hopefuls to take part in the upcoming city and village council elections for the capital, Tehran.

Badamchian said Wednesday that the Followers of Imam and Leadership Front has wrapped up its list and is in talks with another principlist group, the Perseverance Front. 

On April 22, Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar said 302,165 hopefuls have registered for the fourth council elections.

The UAE is progressing steadily because of the unity and synergy among the Emirates’ rulers, said His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

In an interview with Sharjah TV, Dr Shaikh Sultan criticised those who would like to make a lot of noise about the UAE “just for the sake of talking”, without realising what has been achieved in this country since the federation.

La majorité gouvernementale est au bord de l'implosion. La réunion organisée hier a été interrompue suite à des clashs entre Abdelilah Benkirane et Hamid Chabat.

La réunion de la majorité gouvernementale qui a eu lieu jeudi a été interrompue avant même que ne soit discuté l'ordre du jour. Une source présente lors de la réunion a déclaré à Lakome qu'Abdelilah Benkirane et Hamid Chabat se sont lancés dans une joute verbale lors de laquelle le chef du gouvernement a demandé au secrétaire général du parti de l'Istiqlal de retirer ses ministres du gouvernement.

Court jails supporters of black-clad Egypt protest group

Six men were jailed by a Cairo court on Thursday in the first ruling against a little-known group opposed to Islamist President Mohamed Mursi that the government has accused of participating in "terrorist acts".

State security prosecution last month ordered the detention of the men it said were Black Bloc members on accusations that the group seeks the destruction of the country, Egyptian state news agency MENA reported at the time.

KUWAIT CITY, May 1, (Agencies): Kuwait was rated ‘Partly Free’ in the Freedom in the World 2013 Report released Wednesday by the Freedom House.

Freedom House, a non-profit organization, evaluates press freedom in various countries all over the world every year, rating each country from 1 to 7 for political rights (PR) and civil liberties (CL) with 1 as the ‘most free’ and 7 the ‘least free’. 

Opposition Leader’s ‘Assault’ Turns Into Albania Poll Issue

Albania’s parliament on Monday approved an investigation into claims that opposition leader Edi Rama assaulted the Albanian ambassador to the OSCE, after a speech at the Political Academy in Vienna on April 24.

The committee backed by the ruling Democrats and their junior allies in parliament was approved by 71 votes in favour while opposition MPs boycotted the vote.

The parliamentary probe, the third against Edi Rama in one decade, will try to determine whether the opposition leader damaged Albania’s standing in the West through his behavior.
