The founding congress of the Tahia Tounes Movement will be held for the second and third week of April 2019, i.e. April 13 and 14 and April 20 and 21, 2019, General Co-ordinator of Tahia Tounes movement Salim Azzabi announced on Thursday.

The Congress will begin in the regions and its final results will be announced on April 28, 2019, according to the calendar of this congress presented at a press conference in Tunis.

The counting of the votes will take place from April 22 to 28, 2019, he explained, noting that the membership cards will be delivered from March 2, 2019.

According to Azzabi, the Tahia Tounes Movement will have 370 local offices, each with 15 elected members, and 33 regional offices, each of 13 members, in addition to a national council that will be formed from the lists in charge of drafting political motions.

Chawki Gaddes, President of the National Body for the Protection of Personal Data was entrusted with the presidency of the preparatory committee for the Congress, while Najla Ibrahim, a former member of the Independent High Commission for Elections (ISIE), was appointed to head the advisory committee of experts.

"I hope that these elections will result in a party with strong structures and institutions, a party that does not rely on leadership. I also hope that this political party will be able to meet the challenges of the upcoming elections and live up to the expectations of the Tunisian people," said Azzabi.

The Tahia Tounes Movement, on Wednesday, filed an application to be legalised from the Prime Ministry. It chose as the logotype the "V" for victory.

"Prime Minister Youssef Chahed is not present in the composition of the party structure and his candidacy for a partisan position is an issue that is not possible at the moment. First of all, we must organise the founding Congress of the party and lay down its foundations before talking about that," he pointed out.

"Youssef Chahed is currently looking into his government responsibilities and the Tahia Tounes Movement backs him as head of government," he added.

"Chahed needs strong political support for his reform agenda," he said.

In the same context, Slim Azzabi denied any interference between the Tahia Tounes Movement and the government, alluding to accusations against the party about its use of state resources for an early election campaign.

"The Tahia Tounes Movement was not created against any party. We have understood the message of the Tunisian people during the previous municipal elections and we will avoid the mistakes made by the political parties, especially as they were behind the electoral abstention and the crisis of confidence between the 'electorate and political parties'.

On the nature of the relationship between the Tahia Tounes Movement and the Ennahdha Movement, Azzabi said there are two commonalities between the two parties: the attachment to government stability and the desire to complete the process of establishing constitutional institutions.

However, he pointed to the consultations initiated by the party with the Machrou Tounes movement, the Al-Moubadara party and the Al-Badil party as well as with national figures of the Destourian family in order to join the party and unify the democratic forces.

In the same context, Azzabi denied contact with Radha Belhaj to plot against the Nidaa Tounes movement.

"The alliance with the Ennahdha Movement or any other political current is still a premature question," he said, noting that alliances will be built after the results of the elections and the verdict of the polls.
