Local Elections, CoE Brings 24 Observers in Albania

  • Some 24 observers of the Council of Europe will arrive in Albania on June 18 to monitor the local elections. The mission is headed by the Vice President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the CoE, Stewart Dickson. The delegation noted that this is the first time that Albanians vote in a new territorial structure. According to the official announcement, the mission will stay in Albania from 18th to 22nd of June and the delegation has representatives from 15 countries, five of which are from the European Union countries. In its composition will be also the expert on electoral issues, Christina Binder. The mission is expected to meet with the head of CEC, Lefterije Luzi, and the Attorney General, Adriatik Llalla.

    They will also hold meetings with representatives of political parties and coalitions participating in these elections, as well as the candidates running for the municipality of Tirana.

    "On the election day the delegation will have 11 teams that are going to monitor the voting process in the major cities, such as Tirana, Kukes, Shkodra, Fier," said the notice.
