The National Election Committee (NEC) has announced a new step towards facilitating the registration of candidates for the Federal National Council Elections 2015, by allowing Electoral College members to authorise their representatives to submit the application on their behalf to the Emirate Committee of their respective emirate.

In order to take advantage of the new provision, applicants need to authorise a representative through a power of attorney, provided the power of attorney is authenticated by a notary, the NEC stated.

Tariq Hilal Lootah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, and Chairman of the Election Management Committee, said the new provision is a positive step towards easing the registration of candidates.

According to the timetable announced earlier by the committee, those who meet the conditions in the executive instructions can register as candidates for the elections from August 16 to 20. The registration centres will be announced by the Committee later.
