LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has postponed the all parties conference it had called to formulate a strategy on alleged discrepancies in voter lists discovered in NA-122 by-polls on account of Ashura.

Chaudhry Sarwar, the party’s provincial organiser, made the announcement on Wednesday, saying that the Election Commission of Pakistan should hold the local government polls under the supervision of Pakistan Army or Rangers. Sarwar said the PTI would hold the APC on October 27. Addressing a meeting with the PTI’s Lahore Organiser Shafqat Mahmood, Sarwar said, “The government does not want free and fair elections.”

He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) would use any tactic to rig the upcoming polls. Sarwar said that the local government elections will serve as a referendum.

“The PTI does not want to derail democracy…We demand justice. We will pursue our politics within the ambit of the law and the constitution, but we will speak out against rigging.”

Speaking about into the NA-122 by polls, he said that PTI would submit proof of “fraud” voter lists to the ECP.

“If our concerns are not heard, we will protest on the streets. This time the rulers will not be able to face the protests.”  He said the PML-N was claiming popularity by sponsoring fake surveys.

“Despite such tactics, people will vote for the PTI in the local government elections,” he said. He said that the PML-N was responsible for electoral fraud and hence could not be trusted to hold free and fair local government elections.
