President calls for citizens to disregard political talk

The President of the Somali Federal Republic, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accused certain politicians that are against the Somali government of being enemies of peace.

Mr. Mohamud described that any individual who has a personal vendetta against the operations of the Somali Federal Government, is anti-peace element that could be classified as a terrorist.

The President at last called for the citizens to ignore claims from politicians that are criticing the Somali government.

Waaberi commissioner pledged to protect the rights of citizens

Since the appointing of Waaberi district commissioner, Ahmed Mumin Mohamed spoke out for the first time about the district’s going and what his administration aims to tackle. He promised that his administration will support the rights of civilians living in Waaberi.

“Recently, the rain season in Mogadishu has started and therefore we are taking this opportunity to open the roads in the district.” Said Mr. Mohamed

Somali legislators accuse Interior Minister for not appointing suitable regional governors

Some of the Members of Parliament accused the Minister of Interior of failing in his responsibility to carry out the tasks of creating new regional administrations.

Legislator Abdirashid Mohamed Hidig, mentioned that there has been rivalry among certain stakeholders and that they are unable to agree on creating administrations.

Furthermore, another legislator Abdullahi Ali requested from the Somali Federal Government to halt potential regional governors being brought to Mogadishu for consultations.

Puntland, Somaliland leaders meet in Addis Ababa

President of Somalia's federal state of Puntland Abdiweli Mohamed Ali met with a ministerial delegation from the Somaliland region in Addis Ababa on the sidelines of the Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa, Somalia's RBC Radio reported Wednesday (April 30th).

The meeting comes amid heightened tensions between the two regions over border disputes

The Governor of Benadir & Mayor of Mogadishu, Hassan Mohamed Hussein Mungab, issued an official decree stranding the district commissioners of Howl Wadag and Yaqshid in the Benadir regon of their title.

Mr. Mungab reclaimed the official documents of the district commissioner of Yaqshid, Muhudin Hassan Jurus and the district commissioner of Howl Wadag, Mohamed Abukar Ja’far.

Cabinet approves Central Bank Governor and his deputy and discusses the establishment of regional administrations

Mogadishu, April 24, 2014 – The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia His Excellency Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed chaired the Somali Cabinet’s regular session today, during which cabinet members discussed the approval of the Governor of the Central Bank and his deputy. Members also discussed the formation of administrations in the country’s regions and districts.

Somali presidential spokesman and senior adviser Abdirahman Omar Osman Yarisow resigned from his post on Thursday (April 24th) after serving for one year, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.

Yarisow declined to provide an explanation for his resignation and denied speculation that it was related to a disagreement with high-ranking officials.

Previously he held several positions during Somalia's transitional federal governments, including minister of information, posts and telecommunications.

 

Warta Nabada district commissioner replaced in Mogadishu

In an official handover ceremony held today in Mogadishu, Deqo Abdikadir Ahmed, former district commissioner of Warta Nabada was replaced with Yasin Nur Isse.

The ceremony was attended by officials from the Benadir regional administration and other representatives from the Somali Federal Government.

Before Deqo Ahmed handed over the title as district commissioner to Yasin Isse, she reminded the guests of all the development projects she implemented in Warta Nabada as commissioner and requested Yasin Isse to continue what she started.

A Somali legislator told Shabelle that the security forces in Mogadishu are incompetent in carrying out precautionary security measures before an explosion or the death of politicians and other high-ranking officials in the capital city.

The legislator named Abdullahi Ahmed Onko accused the National Intelligence & Security Agency of failing to secure the safety of Mogadishu and that they are unable to carry out their respective roles.

The Director of the Directorate of Immigration & Naturalization General Abdullahi Gafow publicized that the national bio-metric identity cards and passports are still being issued in Mogadishu.

Speaking at the National Security Conference in Mogadishu, General Gafow declared that the Somali passport has ‘no value’ if the owner of the passport has not got a national identity card.

Car bomb in Mogadishu kills a Member of Parliament

According to our correspondent Abdiaziz Mohamed Ali Hajji, a car bomb blasted this morning in Mogadishu’s Hamarweyne district.

The bomb said to be an IED, was tied to the car of Members of Parliament and unexpectedly blasted as they were driving by Hamarweyne, a district only minutes away from the presidential palace.

The explosion instantly killed Isaak Mohamed Riino, a Member of Parliament whereby four others were seriously wounded.

Hiran Governor reiterates the battle against Al-Shabaab

The recently appointed Governor of the Hiran region by the Somali Federal Government Abdifatah Hassan Afrah, affirmed that his administration will prioritize clearing all towns and districts under the region from Al-Shabaab.

The Governor stated that Al-Shabaab changed their tactics to become bandits, to steal the possessions of civilians in Hiran.

After a closed session on Sunday (April 20th) attended by the speaker of the Somali parliament, his two deputies, the 15 parliamentary committee chairs and ministry officials, lawmakers said they were still unsatisfied with Ministry of Finance's budgetary accounting.

The details about last year's expenditures remain "unclear" and other requested changes to this year's budget were not included, Defence Committee Chairman Hussein Arab Isse told Sabahi after the meeting.

Lawmakers gave the ministry another week to provide the necessary information, he said.

District commissioner of Bal’ad accuses Federal Government

Osman Hadole the district comssioner of Bal’ad in Middle Shabelle, voiced strong accusation claims against the Somali Federal Government, as he reported to the BBC Somali Service.

He claimed that that almost 50 battlewagons belonging to both the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and Somali National Army attacked his house in Bal’ad.

“The soldiers attacked us without warning. Not a single person told us that they were unhappy with my administration.” Said Hadole

Minister of Interior & Federalism for the Somali Federal Government Abdullahi Godax Barre strained that 2014 is a crucial year for the government as he vowed that his Ministry will carry out the awaiting tasks accordingly.
At a ceremony held today at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mogadishu, Land-Cruiser vehicles were being tendered to each of the Ministry’s Department Heads. Barre described the handover of the cars as a ‘much-needed gift’ for the heads. He also highlighted that the vehicles were not donated from abroad but from the Ministry’s budget.
