Mayor requests support from Mogadishu residents

The Governor of Benadir & Mayor of Mogadishu General Hassan Mohamed Hussein Mungab, demanded from the residents living in Mogadishu to support his administration to prevent any further attacks from Al-Shabaab, after he alleged that some of the insurgents are present in the capital city.

Mr. Mungab openly declared that Al-Shabaab follow non-Somali traditions and that they are being used by Al-Qaeda to terrorize innocent people in Somalia.

A decree was issued by the Governor of Benadir & Mayor of Mogadishu declared the change of the HamarJajab district commissioner.

Mohamed Ahmed Ali, who held the title until earlier today was stranded as district commissioner despite that his successor hasn’t been announced yet.

Hamarjajab is the latest district in Benadir to see a change in commissioner, after more than half of the other districts had their commissioners replaced too.

When militants blasted their way to within 50 metres of the Somali president’s residence, they forced a sharp rethink of security in the capital Mogadishu.

The deadly Feb. 21 assault on the Villa Somalia compound was the closest militants had got to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The assault by al Shabaab at the heart of government, and a bloody attack five months earlier on a Kenyan shopping mall, showcased the rebels’ destructive reach at home and abroad and cast more doubt on Mohamud’s pledge to improve security.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday (April 12th) cautioned against infusing tribalism into the country's nascent federalism system, Somalia's RBC Radio reported.

Mohamud made the warning during a speech honouring the 54th anniversary of Somali National Army (SNA).

Somalia's progress towards federalism has recently been complicated by competition between rival states forming their own regional administrations.

Mohamed Abdi Kalil, the commissioner of the Gedo Regional Administration for the Somali Federal Government, issued a decree this morning announcing the new district commissioner and his deputy of the Burdhubo district.

It was not too long ago when Burdhubo was liberated from the Al-Shabaab terrorist insurgents by the co-allied African Union peacekeepers and Somali National Army.

The decree mentioned that Hassan Yare Masuul was declared the new district commissioner of Burdhubo whereby his deputy is Ali Mataan Ali.

The People’s Party condemns Parliament over ‘lack of action’

The spokesperson of the People’s Party Aadan Abdulle, reported to Radio Shabelle in Mogadishu that the Somali Federal Parliament is required to take action against the inhumane treatment of Somali refugees in Kenya.

Abdulle added that the Party are thanking Kenyan-Somali MP’s in the Kenyan Parliament on condemning the treatment of Somali refugees in Nairobi’s prominently Somali suburb, Eastleigh.

“The Kenyan Police Units have severely breached the international convention of protecting the rights of refugees.” Said the spokesperson

Abdi Nur , elected as the President of the 3 region state, mentioned that for the past few days he has been concentrating on the new ministerial cabinet.

Senator Bule protests being held in Eastleigh

TANA River Senator Abdi Bule has demanded an apology from Interior Secretary Joseph ole Lenku and Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo.

He said he was embarrassed by police during a security operation in Eastleigh. Bule said he was driving to Eastleigh on Monday afternoon with his children and a bodyguard when they were stopped by police.

He said he produced his national ID and a card showing he is a senator but the police told him both documents are fake.

The elders contacted Radio Shabelle in Mogadishu and described that district officials fabricated documents to collect taxes from residents in Yaqshid.

Handover ceremony held in Mogadishu

A handover ceremony was held today in Mogadishu whereby a new district commissioner of Kaaraan was appointed.

The previous commissioner Ali Alasow gave a lecture informing the crowd of all the projects he implemented and positive changes that he promoted in the district.

“I successfully accomplished improving the security conditions of Kaaraan to make it a peaceful district.” He said

The never district commissioner of Kaaraan Ahmed Hassan Yalahow, declared that his new administration will prioritize security and support for the community.

Security meeting held in Galkacyo

The president of the Galmudug state Abdi Hassan Awaale Qeybdiid met today with community members and civil society groups in Galkacyo. Mr Qeybdiid mentioned that his administration are intensifying their operations to strengthen the security in Galkacyo and prevent any insecurity acts under any of Galmudug’s towns. The meeting was allegedly held today after recent rumors that Al-Shabaab have a presence in Galmudug.

Parliamentary Speaker meets with President in Baidoa

The Speaker of the Somali Parliament Mohamed Sheikh Osman Jawari hosted a meeting today with the newly elected president of the 3-region south western state.
 
Also present at the meeting were delegates, intellectuals and other politicians and was held at Hotel Bakin in Baidoa.
 
Mr Jawari urged on his guests to resolve the political differences in Baidoa and other areas of the Bay region through peaceful dialogue to form their rightful administration.

The Somali parliamentary committee on national security, interior and governance will form a sub-committee to oversee the federalism process in the country, Somalia's Goobjoog News reported Wednesday (April 2nd).

Vice chairman of the committee Dahir Amin Jessow criticised the government's handling of federalism to date, saying that the government has failed to plan ahead.

President back in Mogadishu after Baidoa trip

The president of the Federal Republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud concluded his brief trip to Baidoa to meet with rival politicians in the Bay region.
 
The president returned to Mogadishu at dawn today today and reported to the media that very soon there will be a solution to the political tensions in Baidoa.
 
Furthermore, the Speaker of Parliament and his delegation are still in Baidoa and are expecting to take meetings with clan elders in Bay.

Puntland government supports 3-region South-western State

Somalia's federal state of Puntland on Monday (March 31st) announced its support for the formation of the new South-western State led by Mohamed Haji Abdinur, Somalia's Garowe Online reported.

"Puntland government conveys warm congratulations to southwest state of Somalia's people on their role in crowning an autonomous state," Puntland said in a statement. "[The Puntland government] fully supports the formation and the development of southwest state of Somalia."
