PUTRAJAYA: Former Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said is expected to retract his resignation from Umno, said his successor Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman.

Ahmad Razif said this is in a press conference after meeting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at the latter's office here, Wednesday.

“Insyallah, it will be status quo and we will maintain our 17 representatives (in the state assembly),” he said.

The political situation in the state was earlier feared critical following a series of resignations led by Kijal assemblyman Ahmad on Monday.

Ahmad Said was reported to have quit Umno hours after he was replaced by Seberang Takir assemblyman Ahmad Razif as Terengganu Mentri Besar.

He was later joined by Ajil assemblyman Ghazali Taib and Bukit Besi rep Roslee Daud to become independent representatives.

Roslee, who was also present at the meeting in Putrajaya with Ahmad Razif, has since retracted his resignations.

Wednesday’s meeting with Najib saw 14 Terengganu state assembly reps, including assembly speaker Mohd Zubir Embong, present.

Only Ahmad Said, Ghazali and Hulu Besut assemblyman Nawi Mohamad were absent.

Nawi was reportedly unwell but is said to be supportive of Ahmad Razif’s leadership.
