Ibrahim Mounir, the Muslim Brotherhood official spokesperson, has announced that the stance of the international organisation is the same as that of the Muslim Brotherhood inside Egypt: they are both calling for a boycott of the upcoming presidential election in Egypt.

In an exclusive statement to Alquds Alarabi, Mounir said that: "We will boycott this show and will not participate in a mockery, because the legitimate president is still present, and the legitimate constitution is still present, and so both the Muslim Brotherhood inside and its international organisation outside reject participation in the election and will boycott it, as it's the creation of military pirates who usurped power from the country's democratically elected president."

In regards to the position of the Murshid, or Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, he explained that "the current Supreme Guide Mohammad Badie is still in his leadership position and any rumours of him being replaced by his vice Gomaa Amin are baseless," adding that Amin is currently receiving treatment in one of the hospitals in London and does not discuss politics.

"The Muslim Brotherhood has its working dynamics within the boundaries of the group's constitution, and thus they are self-motivated. The issue of the supreme guide's imprisonment is immaterial and will not affect at all the organisation's activities, which will continue as they have done since the days of Gamal Abdel Nasser, when the supreme guide at that time was also imprisoned," Mounir said.

Commenting on the Egyptian court's ruling on the Muslim Brotherhood's previous supreme guide, Mohammad Mahdi Akef, clearing him of charges that he insulted the judiciary, Mounir pointed out that: "The matter does not require a comment, the man is innocent as are a large number of Egyptians facing fabricated charges for political reasons. The charge of insulting the judiciary has now become a permanent ready-made charge and does not prove anything."

He added that the ruling clearing Akef does not let the Egyptian judiciary of the hook from politicised sentences, because the judiciary continues to pursue dozens of other politically motivated cases.
