PETALING JAYA: An announcement will be made in the next few days on the new election dates for the problematic divisions in the PKR party polls.
Twenty-seven divisions, including 10 in Selangor, were directed to carry out their elections again due to irregularities.
“The party election committee will convene a meeting before deciding on when to hold fresh polls for the problematic divisions.
“An announcement should be made in the next few days.
“The committee will also discuss the pending investigations and allegations against the polls,” said sources within the party here yesterday.
Official results posted on the PKR elections 2014 website showed Azmin Ali (pic) is set to retain the deputy president post with a majority of over 4,000 votes against his nearest rival Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
Azmin received 12,250 votes against Khalid’s 8,123 while a third contender Datuk Saifuddin Nasution had managed 6,997.
In the vice-president race, Nurul Izzah Anwar received the highest number of votes with 16,698 followed by Tian Chua (14,798), Rafizi Ramli (12,690) and Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin (9,718).
Incumbent vice-presidents Fuziah Salleh and N. Surendran failed to retain their posts.
The votes were tallied from 171 divisions nationwide in polls conducted between April 26 and May 11.
A political analyst, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the party’s top leadership should address the drawbacks in party election as it reflected badly in terms of organisation.
“This is not the first time that the party is facing such criticism. They should already establish a good system to conduct clean and fair elections.
“They have lost the moral authority to criticise the Election Commission,” said the analyst.
