Egypt’s cassation court rejected on Wednesday an appeal submitted by top Muslim Brotherhood members, including the group's supreme guide, to be removed from the countries "terrorism list" on Wednesday.

The Muslim Brotherhood’s Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie, along with 17 other high profile members from the organisation, including Khairat El-Shater, Mohamed El-Beltagy and Essam El-Erian, were all placed on the "terrorism list" earlier in 2015 by the late Prosecutor-General Hesham Barakat.

The prosecutor-general's decision was the first time Egypt’s terrorist entities law, which was passed in February 2015, was implemented.

The law requires authorities to identify and list terrorist individuals and organisations.

According to the law, those on the list should remain on it for three years during which their funds remain frozen, and the individuals are not allowed to travel outside the country.

All members named on the terrorism list are currently in prison.

Badie faces more than one death sentence in various criminal cases.

El-Shater, the one-time Brotherhood strongman, was handed a life sentence.

The other members have also been handed long- term sentences in several cases.

The decision to place them on the terrorism list was based on a court verdict that held the 18 members accountable for the deadly violence that occurred in front of the Muslim Brotherhood’s headquarters in 2013.
