  • Observations: The NDP was founded along with other new parties following the amendment of the Syrian constitution to allow the establishment of political parties outside the Baath dominated National Progressive Front in February 2012. It cancelled its plans to take part in the May 2012 elections, boycotting them due to insufficient preparation time. It is unclear just how independent of the regime the NDP actually is. Its positions on the civil war include: opposition to international intervention and arming the opposition, support of dialogue with the regime.
