No complaints received since presidential poll started: NEA confirmed

The National Election Authority has not received any complaints since the start of the presidential election voting process across Egypt on Monday, according to the authority’s head counselor, Lashin Ibrahim. 

In a statement from Ibrahim, he stated that the voting process is going as predicted, and opened at 9 a.m. However, some polling stations have seen judges swap due to emergency medical conditions, which has caused a delays in opening schools for voters. 

About 60 million Egyptians are to begin casting their ballots on Monday, and will continue for three consecutive days, to elect the country’s next president. It is a race that pits the incumbent president Abdel Fatah al-Sisi against head of al-Ghad Party, Moussa Moustafa Moussa. 

The 2018 presidential election is the third election to take place since the January Revolution of 2011. The three-day electoral process is being held under full judicial supervision. 

Expatriates have already voted between March 16 and 18, across 124 countries. Due to unrest, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen did not witness polls for the 2018 presidential election. 

Mahmoud Lasheen, the National Election Authority’s official spokesperson, told Egypt Today that 53 local civic organizations and nine international and Arab organizations have been accredited to monitor the 2018 presidential election.
