For the second time, Prime Minister Muhammad Basendowa was forced to discontinue his speech. He was ousted during the Youth General Conference which was being broadcasted live on Yemen Official Television.
Basendowa said during his speech, “The Yemen unity, in its present political form, is not acceptable,” causing an uproar amongst the youths. This uproar is what forced Basendowa to abruptly leave the conference.
Many southern youths accused Basendowa of conspiring against the south. He replied to the accusation by saying, “I spent two thirds of my life in the south.”  As the event unfolded, shouting emanated from the conference hall as Basendowa was being escorted out.
Journalist of the Yemen Observer said that Basendowa body guards attacked some of the youths, injuring them during the altercation. Witnesses said that while Basendowa was exiting the hall, he was using foul language against the youths.
Shortly after Basendowa left the hall, the Southern youths postponed the general conference. Many political forces and parties announced their refusal to participate in the conference and accused the Islah party of controlling the preparation committee. This led to the presidential decree to delay the conference which was supposed to begin, two days ago.
A similar event involving Basendowa took place last year in Dec. during the Human Rights Conference, in which Basindowa accused the youths of being aligned with the former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
