  • Observations: The VDS was formed in late March 2012 through the merger of the Ettajdid Movement, the Tunisian Labour Party (not to be confused with the Tunisian Workers' Party - see separate entry) and the independent members of the Democratic Modernist Pole. When Nidaa Tounes was created in the summer of 2012 it was said that the VDS would join it. Simultaneously, an imminent merger between the VDS (Al Massar) and the Republic Party (Al Joumhouri) has been on the cards for the latter part of 2012.
