Informed parliamentary sources announced on Sunday that Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly will visit parliament on Monday to deliver a statement on the implementation of his government's two-year old "Egypt Kicks Off" programme.

Informed sources said Madbouly's visit comes after Parliament Speaker Hanafi Gibali announced on Sunday that the house decided to summon Madbouli and other cabinet ministers to deliver statements and answer questions on the implementation of the so-called "Egypt Kicks Off" programme.

After all members of the newly-elected House of Representatives took the oath, Writer and Parliamentarian Farida al-Shobashy – who presided over the inaugural session – began the selection of the Speaker and two deputies through secret ballot after receiving candidacy requests.

At the beginning, Shobashy greeted the soul of late Chairman of National Elections Authority Lashin Ibrahim for running a successful electoral process.

Egypt’s parliament and human rights organizations on Saturday have further condemned a European report on the state of Egyptian human rights, calling it both “opportunistic” and “an explicit violation of human rights.”

Egypt stated that it strongly rejects all allegations made by the European report, and said that the matter came to exploit human rights as a pretext to meddle with Egyptian affairs.

It the decried the report as inconsistent with international conventions and Egypt’s sovereignty over its lands.

Egypt’s Mostaqbal Watn (Nation’s Future) Party, which strongly backs President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, secured nearly 55 percent of the contested seats in a parliamentary election spread over several weeks, official results showed on Monday.

The results confirm the party’s position as a dominant force after it won nearly 75 percent of contested seats for Egypt’s newly recreated Senate in August.

Parliament was already controlled by Sisi supporters, but Nation’s Future sharply increased its share of seats to 315 from 57 in the 596-seat chamber.

Egypt's National Elections Authority (NEA) announced on Monday the final results of the last stage of run-offs for the second phase of the country's new parliament elections, which were held earlier this month.

According to an official statement released by the NEA, 100 new MPs were elected during the round, most of whom belong to the pro-government Mostaqbal Watan Party (The Future of a Homeland).

Polls in 13 Egyptian governorates opened at 9 AM local time on Monday, marking the beginning of the second and final day of voting in the run-off for the first stage of the country's parliamentary elections at home.

The National Election Authority (NEA), the state’s authority in charge of supervising elections, said the voting process on the first day went smoothly.

Judges and members of the public prosecution supervised the polling stations to ensure all standards of transparency, integrity, and adherence to relevant laws are applied, the NEA added.

The two-stage voting process for the House of Representatives that divides the country into two 14-governorate blocs in which eligible voters inside and out of Egypt to elect their local MPs, began on Tuesday, October 21. The 568-seat chamber is convened through a mixed closed-slate and independent electoral system. 

The closed-slate system is dominated by the Unified National List, headed by the pro-regime Nation’s Future Party. The three other competing lists include the Independent Alliance, Call of Egypt and Sons of Egypt, composed mostly of public figures and independents.
