The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) resubmitted a censure motion against Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğanyesterday, the same day it withdrew the bill so that it could first be debated in the leader’s presence.
The motion introduced by CHPAnkara deputy Levent Gök and a group of other CHP deputies claimed that Erdoğan had allowed both the public and the public authority to suffer damage by approving a tender for the privatization of Başkent Doğalgaz (Başkentgaz), the natural gas provider for Ankara. Parliament’s General Assembly was originally scheduled to debate the motion on May 20, but the CHPwithdrew the motion, with Gök saying that thanks to the majority vote of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), the debate on the censure motion was scheduled for a day on which Parliament’s television was not broadcasting.
All citizens should learn how the country’s resources have been made available by the government for their supporter companies, Gök said May 20. “We have withdrawn our censure motion to discuss all these at a session where the prime minister is present.” The prime minister returned from a week-long trip to the U.S. yesterday.
